The sound chip is correctly probed by Fedora Core 1 and you should have no problems with it, except with Real Player as detailed below.
Do not try to use the "Linux Community"-provided player at the Real Player site (URL = http://forms.real.com/real/player/unix/unix.html) - it crashes with a segmentation fault under Fedora...! There is also a problem using esd (ESounD server): some versions of RealPlayer 8 for Linux are not correctly integrated with the default Gnome/KDE sound servers, hence it is necessary to use an older server - esd. Unfortunately, though, esd under Fedora "hangs" on startup, leaving the server daemon running with its setup incomplete. This condition allows a single invocation of RealPlayer but each time you want to press the play button, esd must be re-started. Failure to do this gives the error message "Cannot open the audio device. Another application may be using it."
A suitably "tweaked" version of the player, integrated with the native sound server, is available at ftp://apt.kde-redhat.org/kde-redhat/fedora/all/RPMS.stable/RealPlayer8-8.0.3.412-6.fdr.0.i386.rpm.
You will also need the Mozilla plugin: ftp://apt.kde-redhat.org/kde-redhat/fedora/all/RPMS.stable/RealPlayer8-plugin-8.0.3.412-6.fdr.0.i386.rpm.
Once you have downloaded these two packages, install them using rpm and create a symlink (if necessary) from the plugins directory of your current Mozilla installation to the RealPlayer plugin in your default directory (/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/rpnp.so).
